I bet if you asked any cookier what their biggest challenge is they would say 'space'. Just like any hobby, cookie supplies take up lots and lots of space.
Just a few short months after I began cookieing I added this beautiful piece of storage to my kitchen. My mixer needed a new home. It was too big to fit on my countertop under my cabinets. That entire thing is now filled with only cookie supplies!
Last Christmas I added the KopyKake to my collection.
And this year, my big present from Santa was this drying rack. I am so excited to be able to dry cookies vertically instead of horizontally. I only have so many tables in my house! My entire table has now been turned into a cookie station. I often find myself wondering 'what's next?' How can I make the most of my limited cookie decorating space. I know eventually I will need a place to store all of my cookie cutters, because, no...they don't all fit into that kitchen cabinet anymore.
But then I really start to daydream. Wouldn't a bigger kitchen be absolutely wonderful...or a room devoted to nothing but cookies? I used to dream about having a little gift wrapping room!
I visited my uncle this past week. His house has been under renovation for some time now and little by little it's coming together. I'm not just talking about new paint and new decorative items...I'm talking knocking down walls and adding new ones and completely changing the layout of the house. I'm talking adding about 1,000 extra square feet and sub floor heating. Once completed his house will have two new bathrooms, an extra office, a reconfigured master suite, a sunroom, an outdoor kitchen, a new dining room, a gas fireplace and a wood burning fireplace. Most impressive though is the kitchen. It includes a butler's pantry, a wet bar and a dry bar, a food prep area, etc. Some other impressive stats: It will also include 4 sinks (a small one at the wet bar, a medium one in the island, a two tub dish washing sink and a farmer's sink in the butler's pantry), 3 microwaves plus one convection oven, 3 ovens, a 6 burner gas stove with a pot filling faucet, 2 regular refrigerators and one wine fridge, all custom made cabinets, and a 6 foot by 11 foot cherry island.
Talk about kitchen envy!!! I was just envisioning where I would put my kopykake and all the wonderful cookie decorating space. I may have to relocate to Pennsylvania!!!
Want to see some pics? Remember it's still a work in progress. As in, most of the sinks aren't even in yet and the men helped put in some of the cherry countertops while we were visiting.
I cannot begin to convey how beautiful my uncle's house is turning out to be. Hopefully by next year I will be able to show you pictures of the completed space!
In the meantime, I'll be decorating cookies at my little table!
I hope everyone had a very, merry Christmas.

Kitchen envy for sure! It looks like it will be beautiful for your uncle and his family. Your new vertical drying station is nice too. I've thought of getting one of those, but I don't want to feel compelled to make too many cookies at once ;-) Cristin
